Kappa Delta Pi is proud of their members! In addition to attending meetings, assisting in fundraisers, community service efforts, and professional developments, our members continue to excel as proud educators. Below are just a few highlights of congratulations and special recognition!

2009

Congratulations to, Velvette Laurence, for being our KDP president for another year! And congratulations to our new officers, Vice-President: Stephanie Kimball, Treasurer: Patty Williams, Secretary: Monica Brown, Membership Chair: Stephanie Snedaker, Foundation Representative: Elizabeth Roy

KDP member, Stephanie Lane Kimball, was featured on Click2Houston on their "Student of the Week" feature!

KDP member, Maribel Araujo, volunteers her time at the College of Education- Health and Human Performance Bounce Program! She was filmed by Fox Houston during one of her exercise sessions! The Bounce program is a healthy lifestyle family program for Hispanic and African american girls. Article and video can be viewed on the Fox Houston website.

After learning how to defend against physical attacks, KDP will learn to save a life by taking CPR classes at the Unveristy of Houston. After the course, KDP members will be certified for 1 year to perform CPR on a helpless individual!

Living in a large city there are dangers our members must be prepared to handle. The University of Houston Police Department hosted a special defense training for our members (R.A.D). The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. It empowers female students, faculty, and staff to combat various types of assaults by providing them with realistic self-defense tactics and techniques.

Our Treasurer, Tery Heang, developed an online form and database that will help members keep track of their KDP events and service hours!

Our Foundation Representative, Elizabeth Roy, has created new KDP Zeta Omega merchandise to help market our chapter pride even further!!

Our proposal for the KDP Convocation Conference has been accepted!!
From YouTube to the Classroom: Implementation of Videos in Teaching

Our KDP chapter raised over $2,300 (beating our record last year) funding research to find out why premature birth happens and what can be done to prevent it. GO KDP!!! http://www.marchforbabies.org/teams/kdpteacher

KDP President, Velvette Laurence, creates a global facebook group where educators all over the world can collaborate and share ideas regarding the use of technology in an educational setting.

Our chapter submits our first proposal for the KDP Convocation Conference- Implementation of Videos in Education!

Our chapter registers to support Earth Hour and strives to also have all University of Houston students, faculty, staff, family and friends participate!

Rock the VoteKDP introduces the first "Rock the Vote" Initiative in our college!

KDP was recongized in the UH Honor a Hero- Cougard Care blog!

Hurricane Ike KDP InterviewVelvette Laurence and her husband are interviewed by CBC radio news regarding Hurricane Ike. CBC News is the most heard news radio station in all of Canada! The interview can also be found in the main KDP recognition page

Laura Mendoza had been awarded the Benbrook-Foerster Scholarship and Lopez Joe Rivera Scholarship from the College of Education!

Veronica Colon, KDP alumni and new Alief Kindergarten Teacher is featured in the 'Chron' online newspaper!!

Our organization as grown so much that we have opened up 8 new leadership positions.

NCATEKDP helps support our College by speaking with the NCATE (The Standard of Excellence in Teacher Preparation) reviewers about our personal and educational experiences we have had in our wonderful college!

Congratulations to Bethany Custard for her 6 scholarship awards from the Rudolph J. Capobianco Memorial Scholarship, Patricia Sue and Loise B. Dodds Scholarship, Cecile Foerster Scholarship, Lilie Family Early Childhood Scholarship, Leslie & Kim Wheless Scholarship, and the College of Education Alumni Association Scholarship!

Scholastic book fair comes to Farish Hall. KDP organized a large 3 day event in the College of Education. All Scholastic books were 50% off and KDP earned 10% of the profits! It also became a huge membership drive for our chapter!

March for BabiesCongratulations to everyone that supported our $1,000 goal for March for Babies. Due to your support we have actually raised a total of $1,677 with 36 KDP participates! Our largest group yet to come! [team website]

KDP creates their own chapter t-shirts. They are now worn all over the UH campus and within elementary, junior high, and high schools!

Yvonne Harris, KDP alumni, is listed as "Teacher of the Year" in her school!

Allison Husband, KDP alumni, is listed as "Teacher of the Year" in her school!

KDP bake sales have become so popular in the College that pre-orders have been requested by students, faculty, and staff!

KDP organizes an opportunity for KDP Alumni to talk to our QUEST 3 KDP students regarding the job interview process. KDP undergraduates received personal advice about the experience, what to expect, and how to respond to questions. Shortly afterwards 9 KDP individuals received job offers!

KDP bakes sales have become a hit in the college- espeically when our members dress up for the holiday celebrations!

Teachers Using TechnologyTUT (Teachers Using Technology) student organization is now integrated into the KDP Chapter!

KDP continues to volunteer in the College graduation ceremony. Our assistance is always appreciated!

KDP FacebookKDP develops a successful Facebook group where online discussions are held, networking develops, photos are uploaded, and communication is increased!

Honorary Membership is installed. UH students can now test the waters of KDP before officially joining!

Nicole Young (past president of KDP and professional baker), held a yummy KDP professional development to help us become quick bakers! Her training helped to increase bake sale profits for our chapter!

Resource library is created for KDP members. The library includes donated books from members, such as UH text books, course DVDs, study guides, and K-12 children's books. Books can be checked out 2 weeks at a time.

Officer Internship positions have been installed in our chapter.

Velvette Manzano-Ramirez obtains a glass display case to help promote our organization further!

ScholasticKDP helps Scholastic hold Reading Parties at different districts around the Houston area!

2005

Velvette Manzano-Ramirez has been nominated for "State Student Teacher of the Year"! [read more]

KDP LogoKDP officers attended Convocation bi-annual conference in Florida! While there, our officers were able to meet other KDP chapters from different areas of the world, share stories, network, attend professional developments, and much more!

To help encourage literacy in children, KDP developed the "Bats, Balls, and Books" Reading is FUNdamental program. Our chapter surveyed students in the Houston Area little league baseball team (with the assistance of Dr. Weber) in hopes to discover subjects, genres, and characters each child loves. Several College of Education faculty, staff, students, family, and friends all donated amazing books to our program. With the survey completed and donations received, KDP decorated personalized book bags for each child!! The program was an amazing success and several parents thanked our chapter for the books!

Velvette Manzano-Ramirez develops a new look to our KDP website to help pass chapter information online. The website has now become our most important piece of marketing.

Reading is FUNdamental program is a success! KDP focuses on an Eric Carle theme for their lessons and activities.

A plaque located on the 2nd floor wall (in front of the Dean's office) honors our chapter for service, commitment, and positive attitudes that help make our College a wonderful place to attend.

The KDP Zeta Omega Chapter has been around since 1951 and has always been an organization of high accomplishments! As we find more awards and special news, we will continue to place them on this page.
